The City of London CFO Programme

For professionals ready to move into strategic finance leadership. Build practical expertise in corporate finance, business valuation, private equity and M&A through applied case work. Online access from £495.

The finance role has become more strategic.

Finance professionals are now expected to contribute to decisions that reach beyond reporting, from capital allocation and funding choices to valuation, investment cases and acquisition discussions. That requires strategic financial judgement, not only technical control.

When numbers must be challenged, assumptions tested or a business case interpreted, accounting knowledge alone is not always enough. The programme builds this judgement in a practical, structured way, giving participants the finance, valuation and deal perspective needed for strategic-level decisions.

What capability looks like in practice.

Four practical capabilities that move finance professionals beyond reporting and analysis, connecting corporate finance, valuation, M&A and private capital to strategic decisions.

Read financial decisions through working capital, funding and value creation.

Evaluate investment and valuation cases

From finance responsibility to CFO-level judgement.

The programme is structured around the financial decisions future finance leaders are expected to understand, challenge and contribute to, from capital allocation and valuation to private markets and M&A.

Who is the CFO Programme designed for?

The programme is designed for finance managers, financial controllers, FP&A leaders, finance directors and professionals preparing for broader strategic finance responsibility. It is also relevant for founders, business owners and teams involved in investment, funding, valuation or acquisition decisions.

How is this different from a general finance course?

This is not a general finance course built around accounting technique or textbook theory. The CLFI CFO Programme focuses on the judgement behind senior finance decisions, including capital allocation, valuation, funding choices, M&A and private equity, making serious executive finance education more accessible without unnecessary exclusivity.

What does the CFO Programme cost?

Online access starts from £495 for individual learners. Corporate access, group enrolments, hybrid delivery and in-presence options are priced separately depending on format, cohort size and delivery requirements.

Do I need a specific qualification to enrol?

No specific accounting qualification is required. The programme is designed for experienced professionals who want to strengthen financial judgement around capital, valuation, private equity and M&A. Qualifications like ACA, ACCA, CIMA or similar can provide a useful foundation, but they are not a formal requirement.

What is the study format and time commitment?

The programme is available online, with flexible access designed around working professionals. Many learners complete the core material over several days or weeks, depending on their schedule and pace. Hybrid and in-presence options may also be arranged for organisations or cohorts that want live delivery, case discussion and City of London masterclasses. Learners can progress at their own pace within the access window, making it compatible with a full-time role, travel and business commitments.

Can my employer fund this programme?

Yes. Many participants use professional development budgets or employer-funded learning routes. CLFI can provide a downloadable Employer Sponsorship Note to support internal approval, and organisations can request a corporate pack for team access, invoicing and cohort options.

Is this standalone or part of a wider certificate?

The CFO Programme is a focused executive finance pathway derived from CLFI's wider Executive Certificate in Corporate Finance, Valuation & Governance. It concentrates on the finance, valuation, private equity and M&A components, excluding corporate governance for a more CFO-focused pathway.

What certificate do I receive on completion?

Learners receive a CLFI programme certificate on completion. The programme is also CPD accredited, supporting continuing professional development for professionals building finance, valuation and strategic decision-making capability.
